I also felt that the characters were immature and emotionally disconnected. Plus, there were many plot holes. Like, why was Joshua cursed in the first place? What did the person who laid the curse want to gain out by cursing him? Why did they even lay the curse? Like any personal grudge or something? I felt that this was not elaborated on. Overall, I felt that the plot was inadequately explained and the characters were not well developed through the book. However, the idea seems good, and I commend Oliver for attempting a retelling. But, retelling of a classic tale, any at all, is supposed to be new and imaginative, and supposed to be refreshing and offer new perspectives. However, contrastingly, this version was just not imaginative or refreshing, but just boring and clichéd. Also, there didn't seem to be much resemblance between the Sleeping Beauty tale (unless it is like the Brothers Grimm version, which I have not read). There was nothing new or dark or sexy about the book, considering that it was like a typical teen melodrama. Also, the language used was irritating, like Ohmigod and fave. It seemed as though Oliver was trying too hard to stay relevant. Overall, I won't say I enjoyed the book. 2.5/5 stars at most. I don't think I'm going to be in any big rush to get my hands on this any more, there's too many other really good fairytale retellings around at the moment.

Louise
www.sittingwaitingreading.comAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11076161149551645851noreply@blogger.com
