Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 27th September 2017
Goodreads synopsis:
Run for the hills temporarily. That's Colbie Albright's plan when she flees New York for San Francisco. Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie's so over it that she's under it. She's also under the waters of a historic San Francisco fountain within an hour of arrival. Fortunately, the guy who fishes Colbie out has her looking forward to Christmas among strangers. But she's pretty sure Spencer Baldwin won't be a stranger for long.
Spence's commitment to hiding from the Ghosts of Relationships Past means he doesn't have to worry about the powerful - OK, crazy hot - chemistry he's got with Colbie. Just because she can laugh at anything, especially herself...just because she's gorgeous and a great listener...just because she gets Spence immediately doesn't mean he won't be able to let Colbie go. Does it?
Now the clock's ticking for Colbie and Spence: Two weeks to cut loose. Two weeks to fall hard. Two weeks to figure out how to make this Christmas last a lifetime.
Review:
I know I've said this many times in the past but I truly think that 'Chasing Christmas Eve' may be my favourite Jill Shalvis book yet. It ticked every box for me and was an absorbing and happy read from start to finish - a real treat to be devoured in one sitting. I loved it!
The romance between the main characters Colbie and Spencer made me so happy. I'm sure I was smiling the whole way through the book. They are both very similar in personality and temperament, as well as backgrounds. They have both found incredible success in their respective fields but are struggling to deal with everything that goes along with that. Although it's usually opposites attract, in this case, their similarities are what bring them together and help them to better understand each other. They have such a short period of time together, that the Christmas Eve deadline is a barrier they must overcome. Although there are obstacles in both their home and work lives, I enjoyed seeing them trying to work things out and had no doubt that they would get the perfect ending.
I loved the fact that Colbie's occupation is a YA author. She is forever scribbling down ideas for her stories on bits of paper and loves nothing more than surreptitiously eavesdropping on other peoples' conversations - perfect fodder for her books. I thought that the opening chapter was great and so funny when she is at the airport and has an unfortunate encounter with airport security.
Set in San Francisco, I enjoyed the setting immensely as it's somewhere that I would like to visit one day in the future. It also features the rest of the gang from the series and I loved getting to see all of my favourite couples again.
Jill Shalvis writes the BEST romances and this one was hot and sizzling! I am so thankful that I discovered this author because she has quickly become one of my favourites, particularly when I am in the mood for a romance with real emotion and a heart of gold.

Review: Lost and Found Sisters - Jill Shalvis
Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 20th June 2017
Goodreads synopsis:
After losing her sister in a devastating car accident, chef Quinn Weller is finally getting her life back on track. She appears to have it all: a loving family, a dream job in one of L.A.'s hottest eateries, and a gorgeous boyfriend dying to slip an engagement ring on her finger. So why does she feel so empty, like she's looking for a missing piece she can't find?
The answer comes when a lawyer tracks down Quinn and reveals a bombshell secret and a mysterious inheritance that only she can claim. On impulse, Quinn gives up her job, home, and boyfriend. She heads up the coast to the small hometown of Wildstone, California, which is just a few hours north, but feels worlds apart from Los Angeles. Though she doesn't quite fit in right away, she can't help but be drawn to the town's simple pleasures...and the handsome, dark-haired stranger who offers friendship with no questions asked.
As Quinn settles into Wildstone, she discovers there's another surprise in store for her. She must decide if this new life is the one she was always meant to have - and the one that could finally give her the fulfillment she's searched so long for.
Review:
'Lost and Found Sisters' is yet another gem from prolific author Jill Shalvis. She is my go-to author when I'm looking for a heart-warming and emotional read and this book definitely didn't disappoint me on both fronts.
The story centres around LA chef Quinn Weller who at the beginning of the book discovers a huge secret about her past which ends up changing her whole life. Cue Quinn deciding to head to the small town of Wildstone which holds more revelations waiting in store for her. As she begins to settle into Wildstone, she meets handsome 'handy-man' Mick and it seems that romance might also be on the cards.
Shalvis is the absolute master of writing about small town communities so brilliantly that you can't help but wish that you lived there too. There's a real sense of community spirit about Wildstone and it almost becomes a character in its own right. I could definitely understand how it drew Quinn in, even though it took her a while before she realised just how much she had fallen for it.
The book deals with the theme of grief and bereavement and shows how it's possible to experience great tragedy but also to move forward with life and everything that it holds. It was interesting to see Quinn start a new life based on her own choices and decisions, rather than following the path that someone else has chosen for her. She was a great main character and I was rooting for her the whole way through.
I love a new Jill Shalvis book and this one was packed full of real emotion and romance and a sense of the importance of family. I enjoyed it enormously and found it a truly memorable read.

Review: The Trouble with Mistletoe - Jill Shalvis
The Trouble with Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 27th September 2016
Goodreads synopsis:
Willa Davis is wrangling puppies when Keane Winters stalks into her pet shop with frustration in his chocolate-brown eyes and a pink bedazzled cat carrier in his hand. He needs a kitty sitter, stat. But the last thing Willa needs is to rescue a guy who doesn't even remember her...
He'll get nothing but coal in his stocking. Saddled with his great-aunt's Feline from Hell, Keane is desperate to leave her in someone else's capable hands. But in spite of the fact that he's sure he's never seen the drop-dead-gorgeous pet shop owner before, she seems to be mad at him...
Unless he tempers 'naughty' with a special kind of nice... Willa can't deny that Keane's changed since high school: he's less arrogant, for one thing - but he doesn't even remember her. How can she trust him not to break her heart again? It's time to throw a coin in the fountain, make a Christmas wish - and let the mistletoe do its work...
Review:
‘The Trouble with Mistletoe’ is another cracker from the pen of Jill Shalvis and the second book in the Heartbreaker Bay series. Featuring cute animals, Christmas mistletoe and a sweet romance, it is the perfect wintery read for romance lovers.
The story centres around Willa, a local pet shop owner and Keane, the high school boy all grown-up, who doesn’t remember who she is. Willa has been scarred by her past and is afraid to let herself love. Keane has also had his own issues to overcome but is entranced by Willa and can’t stay away. The two were both such great characters that I was rooting for them from the very beginning. Willa in particular, radiated warmth from every page. I love the way that she tries to help other vulnerable young women by giving them a fresh start and somewhere safe to work. She and Keane have great chemistry and although their relationship doesn’t get off on the best foot, it doesn’t take long to see that they are made for each other.
It was great to revisit some familiar faces in the story and although it took me longer to fall for Keane the way that Willa does, he soon became part of the gang and was welcomed into the fold. Jill Shalvis has a wonderful way of creating such fantastic communities in her books. Friends become family and they always seem like they would do anything for each other.
I can’t really say enough great things about Jill Shalvis’s books. If you are a romance fan then you need to discover her for yourself because her stories are the perfect treat tied up with a shiny ribbon on the top.

Review: Sweet Little Lies - Jill Shalvis
Sweet Little Lies by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 28th July 2016
Goodreads synopsis:
Choose the one guy you can't have... As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas - the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she's in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.
Fall for him - hard... Pub owner Finn O'Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don't ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.
And then tell him the truth. Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it's what she wishes for at the historic fountain that's supposed to grant her heart's desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story-because Pru's been keeping a secret that could change everything...
Review:
'Sweet Little Lies' is the first book in Jill Shalvis's new series Heartbreaker Bay. With every book I read by this author, I become more and more a fan of her stories. I adore her Lucky Harbor series and this was in a very similar vein. It was feel good, romantic, uplifting and a perfect read to pick up and devour while snuggling into your favourite chair with a big cup of tea. I am so pleased that Shalvis has such an extensive back catalogue of titles because I seriously want to read them all!
The main character Pru, has spent a large proportion of her life trying to make amends for the terrible series of events that her parents caused. Her need to give to others and her selflessness lies at the core of her being. She is always thinking of how she can help people and often puts their needs before her own. She was a wonderful character and one that I immediately found myself liking and rooting for. Her latest wish is that handsome bartender Finn will find true love.
I adored the romance which begins to flourish between Pru and Finn. She gives him fun and warmth and adventure and in return, he gives her stability, trust and support. They really compliment each other and I definitely fell for them as a couple. I cared about what happened to them and I couldn't wait for them to realise that they were just perfect together. There are some pretty hot and steamy scenes between the two of them and you will be guaranteed to get very hot under the collar.
The ending was beyond perfect and for some reason reminded me a little bit of Jane Austen's 'Persuasion' which is one of my favourite classics. I also have to give a shout out to Thor the dog who was utterly adorable and a complete sweetie. If you haven't discovered Jill Shalvis yet then you need to remedy that immediately. She's my new go-to author for heart warming romances which leave you feeling all fuzzy inside.

Review: Nobody But You - Jill Shalvis
Nobody But You by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 29th March 2016
Goodreads synopsis:
After an overseas mission goes wrong, Army Special Forces officer Jacob Kincaid knows where he must go to make things right: back home to the tiny town of Cedar Ridge, Colorado. All he needs to scrub away his dark past is fresh mountain air, a lakeside cabin, and quiet solitude. But what he discovers is a gorgeous woman living on a boat at his dock.
Sophie Marren has nowhere else to go. She's broke, intermittently seasick, and fighting a serious attraction to the dark, dishy, I'm-too-sexy-for-myself guy who's now claiming her dock. Something about Jacob's dark intensity makes her want to tease - and tempt - him beyond measure. Neither one wants to give any ground...until they realize the only true home they have is with each other.
Review:
'Nobody But You' is the third book in the Cedar Ridge series, about the elusive Kincaid brother Jacob. I've heard a lot about him but this is the first time that he's actually appeared in the flesh. Returning from active service, Jacob is determined to heal the rifts with his family and especially with his twin brother Hud. What he doesn't expect is to fall for sexy redhead Sophie, who has just left her cheating ex-husband and is now living on his boat.
I really liked Jacob but I definitely found him more of a closed book than either Hud or Aidan. It took me a lot longer to understand what made him tick and he was certainly very enigmatic. Saying that, although he kept his feelings close to his chest, it was obvious how much he cared about his family. However, having left them behind once before, they are wary of him hurting them again.
As well as dealing with family matters, Jacob also unexpectedly finds romance with Sophie. Hot, hot, hot! If you like your romance smokin', then this is the book for you.
I love the way that Jill Shalvis intertwines all the characters of Cedar Ridge, showing all the happy couples together. It makes you want to be a part of their family and community.
Jill Shalvis's books are the best. I'm so glad that I discovered her and thrilled that she has such a big back catalogue for me to savour. Her stories are always a real treat and this was no exception.

Review: My Kind of Wonderful - Jill Shalvis
My Kind of Wonderful by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 22nd December 2015
Goodreads synopsis:
Bailey Moore has an agenda: skiing in the Rockies, exploring castles in Europe, ballroom dancing in Argentina. Now that she has a second lease on life, she's determined not to miss a thing. What she doesn't realise is that item number one comes with a six-foot-one ski god hot enough to melt a polar ice cap. She doesn't want to miss out on him either, but Hudson Kincaid isn't the type of guy to love and let go. And as gorgeous as Cedar Ridge is, she's not planning to stick around. As head of ski patrol at his family's resort, Hud thinks he's seen it all. But never has he run into someone like Bailey. She might look delicate, but her attitude is all firecracker. And her infectious joy touches something deep within him that he's been missing far too long. Now he'll just have to convince Bailey to take a chance on her biggest adventure yet . . . something rare and all kinds of wonderful.
Review:
Jill Shalvis's books are my happy place. I adore her writing and they always give me a much needed injection of romance with a guaranteed happy ending. Her stories are dreamy, her couples are always perfectly matched (even if they don't always realise it!), there are obstacles to overcome which make the resolution even more satisfactory and they always leave me with a smile on my face.
'My Kind of Wonderful' is the second book in the Cedar Ridge series and is centred around Hudson Kincaid, ski patroller extraordinaire and the Prince Charming to artist Bailey, who arrives in Cedar Ridge to paint a family mural at the ski lodge. Hud falls hook, line and sinker for Bailey, who has recently determined to live her life to the full, embracing new experiences and taking chances. After having overcome illness, Bailey wants to grasp her future with both hands and with no holding back. I adored Bailey's outlook on life. Now she has been given the all clear by her doctors and is finally healthy, she is determined to really go for what she wants - and that includes Hud.
I loved both central characters and I was rooting for them from the start. I also enjoyed getting to see all of Hud's extended family again too, particularly Aidan and Lily who featured heavily in the first book in the series. Gray and Penny always make me laugh, so it was great seeing them as well.
This book left me feeling all warm and fuzzy. A perfect read to devour while curled up by the fire in a comfy chair and with a big mug of hot chocolate and marshmallows. Jill Shalvis has most definitely done it again! Fans are in for a real treat!

Review: Second Chance Summer - Jill Shalvis
Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 30th July 2015
Goodreads synopsis:
What do you do when you run into the man who broke your heart? Lily's been back in Cedar Ridge for less than ten minutes when she bumps into Aidan, the former love of her life. So much for sneaking back into town unnoticed. And thanks to frizzy hair and armfuls of junk food, she's turning his head for all the wrong reasons. No one knows why Lily is home after ten years, and she's determined to stay no longer than the summer. But Cedar Ridge and Aidan have other ideas. As they set about persuading Lily to give them a second chance, she finds herself falling under the spell of the Colorado mountains ... and the one man she could never forget.
Review:
Jill Shalvis's Lucky Harbor books are my go-to series when I'm in the mood for a generous helping of romance. 'Second Chance Summer' is the first title in her new Cedar Ridge series which didn't let me down. It gave me lashings of romance, as well as hot sparks flying around left, right and centre. Well it does feature firemen. Yes, that's right firemen!
What I love about Jill's books, is the way that she creates a whole community of wonderful characters who you instantly care about and want to see more of. This time, it's the Kincaid family who live and work on Cedar Ridge and are determined to make a success of their family business at all costs. Although Aidan is one of the main characters, I also really loved his older brother Gray and his domineering and feisty wife Penny, as well as his younger siblings Hudson and Kenna. My favourite thing about them all is that you know they are always watching each other's backs. Although they joke and fight with one another, there is no doubt in your mind that they will stand together through thick and thin.
When Aidan hears that local girl Lily Danville is back in town after a ten year absence, his heart can't help skipping a beat. Lily was the girl that got away and now that she is back, he won't let her escape so easily next time. However, Aidan and Lily are both carrying their own burdens of guilt and until they can leave the past behind, they won't be able to move on with their futures together.
I absolutely adored the setting for the story too. Cedar Ridge sounds picturesque with it's beautiful mountains and hiking trails. First, I wanted to live at the beach and now I'm thinking that the mountains sound right up my alley!
This was a super read which swept me away on a tide of romance. I'm most definitely eager to read the second book in the series now which will be centred around Hudson.

Review: Forever and a Day - Jill Shalvis
Forever and a Day by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 2nd April 2015
Goodreads synopsis:
Grace never thought she'd be starting her life over from scratch. Losing everything has landed her in Lucky Harbor, working as a dog walker for overwhelmed ER doctor Josh Scott. But the day his nanny fails to show up, Grace goes from caring for Josh's lovable mutt to caring for his rambunctious son. Soon Grace is playing house with the sexy single dad...
With so many people depending on him, Josh has no time for anything outside of his clinic and family - until Grace arrives in town. Now this brainy blonde is turning his life inside out and giving a whole new meaning to the phrase "good bedside manner". Josh and Grace don't know if what they have can last. But in a town like Lucky Harbor, a lifetime of love starts with just one day...
Review:
This is the 6th book in the Lucky Harbor series. I am falling more in love with this series with every new instalment that I read. I looked forward all day to getting home from work so that I could pick this up and catch up with all the Lucky Harbor ladies and their handsome guys.
Grace and Dr Josh in this one weren't even my favourite couple (although don't get me wrong, I still really liked them) but what I did love about this book so much was the circumstances that were set up to bring the two of them together. Josh's five year old son Toby is so cute (little kids always melt my heart), as is his new dog Tank. I loved seeing Grace become more and more like a mother to him, without her even really realising it. She has a very open heart and a lot of love to share, not only with Josh but his family too.
Grace and Josh both have to deal with the responsibilities placed on them and in Grace's case, the fear of not living up to the expectations of her perfect parents. It was nice to see them both learning to do some things for themselves, rather than always trying to please the people around them. The similarities and differences they share make them the perfect couple.
Fans of the series will love 'Forever and a Day' and if you haven't yet discovered any of these books yet, then you could still pick this one up and read it as a stand-alone. A heart-warming, romantic and brilliantly written story to pull at all your emotions. Romance fans out there, this one is for you!

Review: Lucky in Love - Jill Shalvis
Lucky in Love by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 2nd April 2015
Goodreads synopsis:
Mallory Quinn has had enough of playing it safe. As a nurse and devoted daughter, she takes care of everyone but herself. And as the local good girl, she's expected to date Mr. Right. But for once, she'd like to take a risk on Mr. Wrong. And who could be more wrong than Ty Garrison? The mysterious new guy in town has made it clear that he's only passing through, which suits Mallory just fine. Besides, his lean, hard body and sexy smile will give her plenty to remember once he's gone...
For the first time in his life, Ty can't bear to leave. Helping this sexy seductress-in-training walk on the wild side is making him desire things he shouldn't, including leaving the military for good. As their just-for-fun fling becomes something more, Mallory and Ty wonder if they could really be this lucky in love. After all...anything can happen in a town called Lucky Harbor.
Review:
'Lucky in Love' is the fourth book in the Lucky Harbor series by Jill Shalvis. I am really enjoying this series and it's perfect for when I want to indulge the side of me that loves a good romance novel.
Local girl Mallory Quinn is the one that always looks after everyone else. Her family and her patients at the hospital consume all of her time, until a mysterious hot new guy arrives in town and makes her go weak at the knees. The mysterious hot new guy aka Ty Garrison, is just stopping through as he recovers from his own mental and physical demons. That is until Mallory comes into his life and makes Lucky Harbor look like the perfect stopping place.
Sparks flew off the page whenever Mallory and Ty got together. Jill Shalvis can certainly write hot and sexy but I also like the way that she portrays genuine warmth, love and mutual respect between her characters. I always believe that her couples will stand the test of time. By the end of her stories you know that they are in it for the long haul.
I really enjoyed seeing Mallory grow in confidence throughout the book. She has always tried to please everyone else and do what they think she should do, so it was nice to see her finally taking control of her own life. Although I had to adjust to a whole new set of characters at the beginning of the book, I quite quickly became absorbed in their lives and was rooting for them to overcome their own personal obstacles.
I'm so looking forward to reading Mallory's friends stories next in 'At Last' and 'Forever and a Day'. Both Amy and Grace are introduced at the start and appear throughout as fellow cake and chocolate lovers. There is definitely something going on between Amy and local park ranger Matt so I can't wait to see if this blossoms into love!

Review: Simply Irresistible - Jill Shalvis
Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis, published by Headline Eternal on 8th March 2015
Goodreads synopsis:
In one fell swoop, Maddie loses her boyfriend (her decision) and her job (so not her decision). But rather than drowning her sorrows in bags of potato chips, Maddie leaves L.A. to claim the inheritance left by her free-spirited mother-a ramshackle inn nestled in the little coastal town of Lucky Harbor, Washington.
Starting over won't be easy. Yet Maddie sees the potential for a new home and a new career-if only she can convince her two half-sisters to join her in the adventure. But convincing Tara and Chloe will be difficult because the inn needs a big makeover too.
The contractor Maddie hires is a tall, dark-haired hottie whose eyes-and mouth-are making it hard for her to remember that she's sworn off men. Even harder will be Maddie's struggles to overcome the past, though she's about to discover that there's no better place to call home than Lucky Harbor.
Review:
This is the first book in the Lucky Harbor series by Jill Shalvis and the first one by this author that I've read. Her writing reminded me of Lisa Kleypass and I will definitely be seeking out more of her back catalogue of titles.
'Simply Irresistible' is about three sisters that are left a small beach side inn by their late mother in the town of Lucky Harbor. The story centres around the middle sister, Maddie, who after losing her job and ditching her boyfriend, desperately wants to make the inn her new home. When she meets gorgeous local guy Jax, she has another very good reason to want to stay.
Maddie is a great character. She has let herself be walked over in her life but she is determined to become more assertive and stand up for herself. She is incredible likeable and I loved her slightly up and down sibling relationship with her half-sisters Tara and Chloe. They all have extremely different personalities but their strengths and weaknesses complement each other. As they begin to bond, you have no doubt that they would do anything to support one another.
Sexy Jax is enough to turn anyone's head! He and Maddie together make a great couple. I loved the way he had to work to win over her trust and her heart. Particularly knowing the way she had been hurt in the past. There are some steamy moments between them but on the whole it is more about the wooing and the romance.
Lucky Harbor is like my dream coastal town. It is exactly the sort of place that I would like to live in. By the sea, simple and uncomplicated and where everyone in the small community looks out for each other.
A sweet, sexy and romantic read, this is the perfect book to settle down with on a warm summer's night. I'm going to be picking up the second in the series 'The Sweetest Thing' about the oldest sister Tara immediately and then I will be searching out all of Jill Shalvis's other books too. A delightful read!
